The Basis of Effective Marriage Counseling: Recalibrating One’s Own Spiritual Compass
Often spouses just want their partners changed in counseling. Well-meaning pastors and disciplers may turn to Ephesians 5:21ff to remedy this misfocus. In this seminar, we will look at what is right and what is lacking in this approach.
Saturday, November 4, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
8:30 a.m. Registration begins
9:00 – 10:15 a.m. Session 1: Marriage and the Will of God
When it comes to decision-making in general, people can be all over the place in understanding and discerning the will of God. Good decision-making is critical to leading the family well, the marriage relationship, and focusing on the glory of God together. But first there must be a biblical understanding of the will of God, and other key definitions and presuppositions surrounding the topic.
10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Session 2: The Tragedy of Poor Decision-Making in Marriage
Half the battle in avoiding the sometimes-tragic effects of poor decision-making, is knowing how not to make them. In this hour, we will look at problematic or unbiblical ways of making decisions and how that can impact the marriage.
11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Session 3: Biblical Decision-Making in Marriage
A clear understanding of the will of God and a recognition of wrong ways to make decisions is not enough for a couple to navigate well in the myriad of decisions they face. This seminar will seek to address the specifics of a more biblical model of decision-making in everyday choices.
Lunch at local restaurants
2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Session 4: Addressing Key Issues within Marriage
In this seminar we will seek to address the application of the decision-making principles to a variety of issues couples may face (within the time allowed).
